Stephen Lux is an aggressive, zealous advocate who also enjoys an excellent reputation for courtesy and professional integrity in the legal community. He is a seasoned trial attorney who has spent his entire career, since being admitted to the California Bar in 1983, handling civil litigation matters. He has a vast wealth of experience in all aspects and stages of civil litigation, from initial pleadings, to discovery, trials, post-judgment collections, as well as appeals and writs.
He has handled cases in most areas of civil law, including all types of business matters, such as breach of contract, interference with contract, fraud, unfair competition, intellectual property theft, wrongful firing, civil rights violations, insurance coverage and insurance bad faith, securities fraud, partnership and shareholder disputes and dissolutions, professional liability, and various others.
Mr. Lux’s experience has encompassed litigation in State and Federal Court as well as business and securities arbitration panels, including the American Arbitration Association (AAA) and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). He has been lead counsel in numerous trials and arbitrations, including jury and non-jury trials, and private and industry-related arbitrations.
Mr. Lux obtained his law degree from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1982. Prior to that, he attended college in New York State at Cornell University College of Arts & Sciences, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Government, and played as a midfielder on Cornell’s NCAA Division One Lacrosse team, national champions.
Mr. Lux has practiced civil litigation with first-rate law firms throughout Southern California in diverse specialty areas, giving him an especially broad background and establishing him as a superior litigation attorney. After law school, he began his career with the Law Office of Roswell Bottum (later “Bottum & Feliton”), in Los Angeles, where he handled legal malpractice, insurance coverage, and bad faith matters. He became a partner after just five years and was chosen by the firm to open a branch office in San Diego where he was the managing partner and lead trial counsel, handling a wide variety of litigation matters involving premises liability, construction bond claims, and again, professional liability.
Mr. Lux also litigated cases for Greco & Trafficante in downtown San Diego, and Flynn, Sherridan & Tabb, in Rancho Santa Fe. Greco & Trafficante was perhaps the preeminent construction defect defense firm in San Diego while Flynn, Sheridan & Tabb was a boutique intellectual property firm with celebrity clients like Deepak Chopra, the Beach Boys, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and many others. There he handled a variety of cases, including intellectual property claims and business torts.
Finally, before joining Gehres Law Group, P.C., Mr. Lux worked for 10 years with the downtown San Diego office of Shustak & Partners, a leading firm in the area of customer securities arbitration claims and representation of securities brokers and agents as well as general business litigation. Mr. Lux was the first attorney hired at Shustak & Partner’ s San Diego office and was second in seniority and responsibility to founder Erwin Shustak, handling numerous high-level securities arbitrations before the NASD (forerunner to FINRA) and a variety of general business disputes in State and Federal court.
Today, Mr. Lux brings his vast experience to benefit the clients of Gehres Law Group, P.C. His philosophy, like the philosophy of the firm, is to obtain the best, most economical result possible, always placing the client’s interests first.
When not working as a lawyer, Mr. Lux’s hobbies include hiking, swimming, reading, travel, and playing the flamenco guitar.
